In particular, he expressed his determination to diligently undergo quarantine treatment to prevent anyone from being harmed because of him, drawing attention from netizens.
The international student A (21), who identified himself as the 17th COVID-19 confirmed case in Jeonbuk, revealed the process from departing the U.S. to testing positive for COVID-19 after entering Korea on April 8 on the Facebook page "Jeonju Da Malhae," used by Jeonju citizens.
In the post, A said, "I am a student who departed Washington DC on April 5 and arrived at Incheon Airport on April 6," adding, "I underwent quarantine at the airport and passed through the system for returning nationals without contacting anyone."
He continued, "I boarded a bus to Jeonbuk at 7 p.m. on the 6th and was quarantined at Jeonbuk National University facilities until 6 p.m. on the 7th at the health center," explaining, "I received notification of an asymptomatic positive test result around 6 p.m."
He stated, "Except for about 30 minutes on the plane from the U.S. departure to arrival in Korea, I wore a mask the entire time," and added, "Experts speculate that the infection likely occurred on the plane."
He also said, "I have now been moved to Namwon for everyone's safety. Fortunately, I had no contact with anyone and acted according to the instructions of quarantine and prevention authorities," and "To prevent further spread, I am disclosing my personal information," listing his flight number (KE904) and seat (42G).
Finally, he added, "I will behave properly and undergo treatment safely so that no one is harmed because of me."
Earlier, on the 7th, according to Jeonbuk Province, the 17th confirmed patient A received a positive COVID-19 test result from health authorities at 5 p.m. that day.
A, who was studying in Washington, U.S., arrived at Incheon Airport at 4 p.m. on the 6th.
Immediately after arrival, he used a dedicated bus for overseas arrivals and reached Jeonju World Cup Stadium around 9:50 p.m., then was transported by a vehicle supported by the Jeonbuk Fire Headquarters to Jeonbuk National University Geunji House, a temporary living facility for overseas arrivals in Jeonju.
Afterwards, he took a dedicated taxi for overseas arrivals to the Deokjin Screening Clinic for specimen collection and tested positive on the afternoon of the 7th.
Currently, A is being transferred to Namwon Medical Center for isolated treatment.
