Prosecution Seeks 4-Year Prison Sentence for Cho Hyun-beom, CEO of Hankook Tire
CEO Cho "Fully Accepts All Responsibility and Admits Guilt"
[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] The prosecution has requested a 4-year prison sentence for Cho Hyun-beom, CEO of Hankook Tire (48), who was indicted on charges of receiving bribes worth several hundred million won from subcontractors.
On the 8th, at the sentencing hearing for CEO Cho's case involving breach of trust and bribery, held under the presiding judge Park Jin-hwan of the Criminal Division 1 at the Seoul Central District Court, the prosecution made this request and asked the court to confiscate 615 million won.
Additionally, the prosecution requested a 2-year prison sentence for Cho Hyun-sik, CEO of Hankook Technology Group (49), and a 1-year prison sentence with a 2-year probation for subcontractor representative Lee.
CEO Cho was brought to trial on charges of pocketing over 600 million won in total, receiving several million won monthly as delivery fees from subcontractors, and embezzling over 200 million won of affiliate company funds.
The prosecution confirmed that CEO Cho used nominee accounts during the process of receiving bribes and embezzling company funds, and indicted him on charges including violation of the Act on the Regulation and Punishment of Criminal Proceeds Concealment and the Real Name Financial Transactions and Confidentiality Act.
In his final statement, CEO Cho said, "I fully acknowledge all responsibility and admit my guilt," and added, "I apologize."
