"Beijing COVID-19 Quarantine Cannot End in Short Term"
[Asia Economy Beijing=Special Correspondent Park Sun-mi] Beijing City, China, is set to continue its COVID-19 prevention activities for the time being. The city government’s position is that the situation is still not safe.
According to China’s state-run Xinhua News Agency on the 6th, Xu Hejian, Director of the Beijing Municipal Press Office, said at a briefing the previous day, "The current COVID-19 prevention and control situation in Beijing remains serious and complex. It cannot be regarded as a mild situation."
He explained, "One of the keywords for Beijing’s current prevention and control efforts is maintaining steady measures even during normal times," adding, "We will continue to adhere to the strategy of blocking overseas re-importation of COVID-19 and preventing internal infections."
He continued, "Given the global spread of COVID-19 and Beijing’s role as an international trade hub, it is impossible for the city’s prevention and control activities to end in the short term. The current prevention and control situation will continue for a long period."
While continuing Beijing’s prevention and control efforts, efforts will also be made simultaneously to accelerate the resumption of production at companies and factories and to restore normal life. Director Xu emphasized, "The government will establish a series of policies to support the resumption of production and employment."
