Seoul City Conducts Safety Inspections at 30 Flood-Prone Construction Sites Including Oryu Stream
[Asia Economy Reporter Onyu Lim] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 6th that it will conduct safety inspections on major construction sites vulnerable to flood damage, such as rainwater pumping stations, large-scale construction sites near rivers, and sewer pipeline maintenance, in collaboration with experts and local residents until the end of April to prevent damage caused by heavy rain and typhoons.
The target sites include 30 locations such as Oryucheon, Gangseo-gu Office Intersection, Gangnam Station Watershed Separation Tunnel, Yangjaecheon Right Bank Road Construction, and Mokdongcheon Ecological Stream Pilot Project. Currently, inspections at 15 sites (about 50%) have been completed.
Experts, autonomous disaster prevention groups, university students, and local residents are participating in this inspection. The city immediately notifies the relevant institutions on-site of any problems found during the inspection and requests follow-up measures.
The city and the inspection team have thoroughly checked 15 sites since starting the Oryucheon cross-section expansion construction on the 10th of last month. Minor issues found on-site are addressed immediately, and issues requiring more time are guided to be resolved and results submitted by the 15th of next month, before the rainy season.
Additionally, the city will continue safety measures for risks identified during the inspection period to create an environment where citizens can use facilities with peace of mind. It also plans to prepare for rapid damage recovery after disaster situations, including installing flood prevention facilities that citizens can feel and supporting flood insurance premiums without delay.
