Gwangju City Provides Secondary Damage Compensation for Tap Water Quality Incident in Seo and Nam Districts
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] The Waterworks Headquarters of Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 5th that it will conduct a second round of damage compensation applications related to the water quality accident that occurred on November 7 last year in some areas of Seo-gu and Nam-gu, including Hwajeong-dong, Juwol-dong, and Wolsan-dong.
The Waterworks Headquarters completed the first round of damage compensation on January 1 this year (276 cases totaling 63,403,000 KRW), but decided to accept a second round of applications to support affected residents who were unable to apply due to unavoidable reasons.
The compensation items include personal and material damages that can be proven to be related to the water quality accident, such as filter replacement costs and bottled water purchase expenses. Submitted cases will be reviewed by the 'Tap Water Damage Compensation Deliberation Committee' and reasonable compensation will be provided.
Additionally, matters related to re-examination requests for the results of the first damage compensation (14 cases) will be decided together with the second tap water damage compensation review.
Damage compensation applications can be submitted by mail, email, or visit (Waterworks Headquarters and Western and Southern Regional Offices) from the 6th to the 17th.

Yeom Bang-yeol, head of the Waterworks Headquarters, said, “To prevent and contain the spread of COVID-19 infection, we kindly ask that damage applications be submitted preferably by email,” and added, “We will thoroughly manage the waterworks so that citizens can use tap water safely and cleanly in the future.”
