"Online School Opening Laptops Supported by Baemin"
Woowa Brothers to Utilize 'Woowa Positive Impact Virtuous Cycle Fund' Established with 5 Billion KRW Donation
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] Amid the first-ever online school opening due to the impact of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), Woowa Brothers (CEO Kim Beom-jun) is taking steps to create a smooth learning environment for children from low-income families.
Woowa Brothers announced on the 5th that they will provide equipment such as laptops and headsets to 50 selected children in preparation for the online school opening through the 'Woowa Positive Influence Cycle' fund.
The Woowa Positive Influence Cycle fund was established in March 2018 when Woowa Brothers pledged to donate 5 billion KRW to the Korean-style donor-customized fund of the Community Chest of Korea. The donor-customized fund determines the usage based on the donor's intentions. Currently, this fund is used to provide opportunities such as scholarships, mentoring, and emotional development activities for six years from the first year of middle school to the third year of high school to children who cannot have sufficient learning opportunities due to difficult family circumstances.
The recipients were recommended by teachers from schools and local children's centers through the Green Umbrella Children's Foundation, and were finally selected by Woowa Brothers and the Community Chest of Korea. The laptops are currently being sent to the children sequentially.
In addition to laptops, equipment such as headsets, mice, laptop stands, and keyboards will also be provided. In particular, considering the home communication environment, support for internet and mobile data fees is also planned.
Woowa Brothers plans and operates support programs every year in cooperation with the Community Chest of Korea and the Green Umbrella Children's Foundation, including family psychological counseling, family trips, and job experience camps. In January of this year, they gifted 200,000 Baedal Minjok points per child to children who have no guardians and survive on ramen. Last month, they provided 'Woowa Family Coupons' worth 400,000 KRW per person for siblings to use together.
