4 COVID-19 Cases Confirmed in Gangnam-gu Including International Students
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] On the 3rd, four additional COVID-19 positive cases, including overseas students and travelers, were confirmed in Gangnam-gu, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the district to 49.
A 64-year-old woman residing in Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam-gu, showed symptoms such as fever, cough, and chills on the 31st after contact with a confirmed case at her workplace in Samseong-dong on the 26th of last month. She underwent testing at the Gangnam-gu Public Health Center on the 2nd and was confirmed positive that morning.
Also, a 22-year-old man living in Daechi-dong, Gangnam-gu, traveled to Paris, France, on the 9th of last month for travel purposes but returned on Korean Air flight KE902 on the 17th due to the spread of COVID-19. Since a confirmed case was seated behind him on the plane, he self-quarantined at a temporary residence in Yeoksam-dong until the 31st. He was tested on April 1st at Gangnam-gu and confirmed positive today.
A 22-year-old female overseas student residing in Dogok-dong, Gangnam-gu, returned on Korean Air flight KE082 on the 1st after classes were postponed due to the COVID-19 outbreak. She was tested at the Gangnam-gu Public Health Center on the 2nd and confirmed positive on the 3rd.
Furthermore, a 76-year-old woman living in Irwon-dong, Gangnam-gu, stayed with relatives in New Jersey, USA, since October last year and returned on Korean Air flight KE082 on the 1st due to the COVID-19 spread. Although she showed no particular symptoms, she was tested at the Gangnam-gu Public Health Center on the afternoon of the 2nd and confirmed positive that morning.
Jung Soon-gyun, Mayor of Gangnam-gu, stated, "Gangnam-gu will proactively identify families of residents such as overseas students arriving at Incheon International Airport and guide them on self-quarantine rules. We will assign a one-on-one monitoring officer from the district office for management." He added, "Residents with family members expected to arrive are requested to pre-register at the Gangnam-gu Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters Situation Room or their local community service center."
