Minister Lee Jae-gap Visits IT Company Video Interview Site: "Untact Hiring Must Expand"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] Amid delays in new hiring by companies due to the impact of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), the government has rolled up its sleeves to promote 'Untact hiring.'
On the 2nd, Lee Jae-gap, Minister of Employment and Labor, visited the IT company 'Eastsoft' located in Seocho-gu, Seoul, to observe a video interview hiring site and hold a meeting.
This visit was made to express gratitude to companies maintaining hiring through video interviews despite the impact of COVID-19 and to urge companies to make efforts to expand youth employment.
At the meeting, Minister Lee shared measures to spread Untact hiring throughout the job market and listened to difficulties faced on the ground.
Untact hiring refers to a method of recruiting employees through online written tests, video interviews, etc., as part of social distancing to prevent COVID-19 infection. Hyundai Kia Motors resumed new hiring through video interviews starting from the 30th of last month, and SK Telecom conducted hiring procedures through online written tests and video calls.
Minister Lee said, "Due to COVID-19, there are great concerns about economic recession worldwide," adding, "Many companies are delaying hiring indefinitely, including new and experienced positions that were previously planned."
He continued, "With hiring procedures halted due to COVID-19, young people preparing for employment are in a more difficult situation than ever," and said, "I sincerely thank those companies hiring youth as planned despite the difficult circumstances on behalf of the youth."
Minister Lee stated, "Hiring through Untact methods such as video interviews is gradually increasing," and added, "The government will also provide maximum support so that these private sector efforts can be effective."
He emphasized, "By utilizing Untact hiring, companies can find the talent they need in a timely manner, and young job seekers can succeed in employment," adding, "These efforts contribute to economic revitalization and enable a virtuous cycle socially and nationally."
