Minister Choo Mi-ae: "Viewers of the nth Room are also accomplices... Personal information disclosure is possible"
[Asia Economy Reporter Seulgina Cho] On the 1st, Justice Minister Choo Mi-ae stated regarding the issue of revealing the identities of accomplices in the so-called 'Telegram n-room' case, "The identities of those who bear heavy responsibility will be disclosed."
Minister Choo appeared on KBS Radio’s ‘Kim Kyung-rae’s Strongest Current Affairs’ that morning and said, "Under the current Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Crimes, identity disclosure is possible when necessary for the public interest." Earlier, 1.99 million people participated in a Blue House petition demanding the disclosure of the identities of all Telegram n-room members.
Regarding the n-room crimes, Minister Choo also expressed the opinion that the 'organized crime group formation' charge could be applied. She said, "If there is at least a minimum command and control structure, there is a possibility of establishing the organized crime group formation charge," adding, "Even based on the investigation details revealed so far, it seems possible to apply the organized crime group formation charge to the n-room operators."
Furthermore, concerning members who joined the n-room and viewed child and adolescent sexual exploitation materials, she judged, "They are not merely spectators but show signs of inciting or actively enticing the crimes," and "There is a possibility of punishing them as accomplices."
Minister Choo emphasized, "I declare that the harshest and strongest sentences will be sought," and urged, "Please surrender quickly, reflect on your crimes, and cooperate in eradicating them." Regarding some claims that "Telegram’s strong security makes investigation impossible," she said, "As crimes evolve, forensic investigation techniques have also advanced," and added, "Please keep in mind that those caught last may receive the harshest punishments."
Additionally, concerning the accomplices of 'Doctor’s Room' operator Jo Joo-bin (24) submitting letters of remorse to the court and appealing for leniency, she drew a clear line by stating, "Even if there is individual remorse, thoroughly investigating this crime comes first."
