On the 31st, they held a joint press conference at the Gwangju Metropolitan Council and announced the ‘3 Major Cooperation Declaration,’ pledging their final dedication to the political and economic development of Honam.
The ‘3 Major Cooperation Declaration’ announced by the two preliminary candidates includes ▲ Leading the re-creation of the democratic reform forces’ regime ▲ Achieving Gwangju’s development through abundant national administration experience and networks ▲ Discovering and nurturing the new DJ.
Preliminary candidates Jang and Cheon stated, “If Gwangju politics in this election is filled only with first-term and 1.5-term politicians, it is obvious that securing the budget and Honam politics will decline,” and “There are many bleak prospects that the creation of the 4th democratic regime is absolutely impossible with the Democratic Party, which has deviated from current principles.”
They continued, “Since the Democratic Party swept the local councils two years ago, it has shown the extremes of lost checks and balances, immorality, and helplessness,” and “Moreover, during the primary process of this general election, illegal phone rooms and illegal burner phones appeared, causing great disappointment among citizens due to primary election fraud and overturning results without principles.”
They also said, “The democratic reform forces cannot win the presidential election approaching in two years with the Democratic Party alone,” and “Of course, we also bear responsibility for not further developing the Honam competitive system amid the Democratic Party’s dominance. We chose an inevitable transition from the People’s Party to Minsaengdang solely following the compass of Honam and Gwangju public sentiment.”
They added, “The two of us have contributed greatly to the Moon Jae-in administration’s national governance and reforms,” and “We strongly advocated the ‘Reform Legislative Coalition’ to unite the pro-democracy reform forces excluding the Liberty Korea Party to push reform legislation, and through the ‘4+1’ coalition, we bore fruit in reform legislation and a significant increase in the Honam budget.”
