Incheon Fire Headquarters Restructures Organization and Adds 184 Personnel in Line with Firefighters' Transition to National Status
Adjusted from Deputy Mayor's Office to Mayor's Direct Department
Staffing increased from 2,995 to 3,179, enhancing field response capability
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] The Incheon Fire Headquarters will be adjusted from being under the jurisdiction of the Deputy Mayor for Administration to a department directly under the Mayor, coinciding with the transition of firefighters' status to national employees on the 1st. Along with this, the number of personnel will significantly increase, further strengthening on-site response capabilities.
According to the Incheon Fire Headquarters, with the enactment and revision of the Firefighters Act and related subordinate laws and local regulations, which passed the National Assembly plenary session last November, all firefighters in Incheon City will have their status converted to national employees starting from the 1st.
Accordingly, the Incheon Fire Headquarters plans to carry out an organizational restructuring to enhance on-site response capabilities in line with the transition to national status. The Fire Headquarters will be adjusted to a department directly under the Mayor, who can command and supervise directly, and the number of firefighting personnel will increase from the current 2,995 to 3,179.
Among the increased personnel, 122 will be prioritized for deployment to fire suppression teams, rescue teams, emergency medical teams, and the 119 comprehensive situation room, where dispatches are frequent and workload is high, improving working conditions for staff.
The remaining 62 personnel will be assigned to newly established fire stations this year in Songdo (International Center), Seobu (Daegok Area Unit), and Ganghwa (Bureun Center).
Additionally, to enhance expertise and efficiency in the construction of newly established fire stations in each region due to increasing firefighting demands such as urban development, a Fire Station Team will be newly established.
