"Reviving Voices of the Hearing Impaired with AI" KT 'Maeumeul Damda' Campaign
[Asia Economy Reporter Chae-eun Koo] "Hello. I am Kim So-hee. I am truly happy and grateful to be able to share my voice."
KT has restored the voice of a hearing-impaired person using artificial intelligence (AI) voice synthesis technology. This utilized Giga Genie technology, which infers the voice by analyzing the oral structure of the individual, along with the voices of family members and peers.
On the 1st, KT announced that it successfully restored the voice of hearing-impaired Kim So-hee as part of the 'Filling the Heart' campaign. Kim So-hee is a congenital hearing-impaired person who lost her hearing at birth and was unable to speak. She had never heard her own voice nor shared it with others.
To restore Kim So-hee’s voice, KT first recorded the voices of her family members. Then, by analyzing the voices of peers and examining her oral structure, they completed the voice synthesis using Giga Genie AI voice synthesis technology. Family members and the filming staff, hearing Kim’s restored voice for the first time in their lives, shared a moving moment filled with tears.
Kim Hyung-wook, Executive Director of KT Future Value TF, said, “KT strives to quickly and flexibly provide what customers need by paying attention to the thoughts and feelings of each individual. We will continue the ‘Filling the Heart’ campaign, which leads to changes in each person’s life.”
