Candidate Jo O-seop: "Support for Living Expenses of Special Employment Workers Should Include Taxi Drivers"
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jo Oseop, the Democratic Party preliminary candidate for Gwangju Metropolitan City Buk-gu (Gap) in the April 15 general election, stated on the 31st that "taxi workers should also be included in the special employment livelihood support for those directly affected by COVID-19."
Candidate Jo pointed out, "Especially, the three main pillars of public transportation?the subway receives support through construction corporation transfers, and buses receive deficit compensation through the quasi-public system to support COVID-19 damages, but the taxi industry, despite suffering direct damage, has been excluded from the support targets."
He continued, "The subway and bus industries can offset COVID-19 damages because Gwangju City preserves deficits through construction corporation transfers and the quasi-public system, but taxis are left in a blind spot. As a key part of public transportation, taxis conduct daily disinfection activities and serve as citizens' means of transportation under difficult conditions, so additional support for the taxi industry is necessary."
