Australia Bans Gatherings of 3 or More... "Outside the Home, You Can Only Meet One Person"
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunwoo Lee] The Australian government announced measures to ban gatherings of three or more people in public places to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19). Violating these government 'social distancing' regulations will result in fines.
According to foreign media including the AP News, on the 29th, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced at a press conference, "You can stay inside with your family, but outside you can only meet one person," imposing a restriction limiting the number of people who can meet in public places to two. Previously, some European countries such as Germany and Poland also banned gatherings of three or more people in public places.
The Australian government also stated that it will maintain policies allowing up to 10 attendees at funerals and up to 5 at weddings, outside of public places. Violating the Australian government's social distancing regulations will result in a fine of 1,000 Australian dollars (approximately 740,000 KRW). Prime Minister Morrison advised, "Except for essential reasons such as buying necessities or receiving medical treatment, people should stay at home." He also advised that seniors aged 70 and over should self-isolate to protect themselves from COVID-19.
