Seodaemun-gu Eases Burden of Farms Struggling Due to COVID-19
Seodaemun-gu Partners with Jeonju Food Integrated Support Center to Supply Eco-Friendly Agricultural Produce Sets...Potatoes, Onions, Zucchini, Oyster Mushrooms, Bean Sprouts Included, Sold for 10,000 Won with Free Delivery
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seodaemun-gu (Mayor Moon Seok-jin) has stepped up to support public meal supply producers facing difficulties in sales channels due to the delay in school openings.
The district announced that, in collaboration with the Jeonju Food Integrated Support Center Foundation, it will supply eco-friendly agricultural product package sets starting from the 30th of this month.
The package contains five items: 1kg of potatoes, 1kg of onions, 1 zucchini, 400g of oyster mushrooms, and 300g of bean sprouts, priced at 10,000 won.
This price reflects a 1,000 won discount from the total individual item price of 11,000 won, and the Jeonju Food Integrated Support Center will cover the delivery fee (4,000 won).
Those wishing to purchase can send a text message with the orderer’s name (must match the depositor), recipient, delivery address, contact number, and order quantity.
Once the deposit is confirmed in the account (Jeonbuk Bank 1013-01-1177268, account holder: Jeonju Food Integrated Support Center Foundation), the center will ship the agricultural product package to the delivery address via courier.
Anyone can place an order without quantity restrictions.
Due to securing local stock and preparing shipments, it is expected to take from 3 to a maximum of 7 days from order to receipt of the package.
This project will be implemented temporarily depending on supply availability.
Seodaemun-gu signed a ‘Urban-Rural Win-Win Business Agreement’ with Jeonju City in August 2018 and established the ‘Seodaemun-gu Public Meal Supply Center.’ Since September of that year, it has been receiving orders from local daycare centers and welfare facilities and supplying fresh ingredients produced in Jeonju daily.
By reducing distribution channels, it guarantees fair prices to producers while providing meal institutions with more affordable ingredients, receiving much positive feedback.
In response to daycare closures and school opening delays due to COVID-19, the district prepared this project allowing agricultural products to be delivered through simple text message orders to support Jeonju’s eco-friendly agricultural producers facing difficulties.
Mayor Moon Seok-jin said, “The impact of COVID-19 has deeply troubled producers in production areas, and I hope that urban and rural communities can come together with wisdom to overcome this period together.”
