Increasing COVID-19 Cases Among US Forces Korea Personnel
[Asia Economy Reporter Yang Nak-gyu] Additional cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed at the U.S. military base in Pyeongtaek.
On the 27th, the U.S. Forces Korea Command announced via Facebook, "Additional positive COVID-19 cases have been identified at Camp Humphreys in Pyeongtaek," adding, "Epidemiological investigations and disinfection efforts are currently underway for close contacts, and further information will be provided soon."
At the Pyeongtaek base, COVID-19 cases were also confirmed on the 24th, bringing the total number of confirmed cases among U.S. military personnel, their families, and employees to 10.
The additional COVID-19 cases at the U.S. military base occurred after the U.S. Forces Korea Command declared a public health emergency on the 25th. The declaration was made as the risk of exposure to COVID-19 among service members increased.
In particular, Commander Abrams recently sent a letter to service members, their families, and Korean workers, warning that violations of quarantine and prevention guidelines have occurred, and that such violations could result in a two-year ban on access to U.S. military facilities.
