Gyeongbuk Province Attracts Smart Agriculture Horticulture Complex Project ... Secures 2.7 Billion KRW in National Funding

View original image[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Young-wook] Gyeongbuk Province has been selected for the 'Smart Horticulture Complex Infrastructure Development' project, promoted as a public contest by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, securing 2.7 billion KRW in national funding.
According to Gyeongbuk Province on the 26th, with this project selection, infrastructure such as roads, drainage channels, and communication facilities will be expanded to establish a smart horticulture complex over an area of 48 hectares at 88 Yakseong-ri, Heunghae-eup, Pohang City. A total of 32 farms will participate, and 3.8 billion KRW, including national and local funds, will be invested over two years until 2021.
This area is currently densely populated with aging greenhouses, and with the expansion of infrastructure, a system capable of stable production of high-quality agricultural products is expected to be established.
In this year's project selection, four provinces and cities nationwide, including Gyeongbuk, Jeonbuk, Gyeongnam, and Gyeonggi, competed, with two locations selected: Pohang in Gyeongbuk and Gochang in Jeonbuk.

Lee Cheol-woo, Governor of Gyeongbuk Province, said, "This project selection can be a source of strength for local residents struggling due to COVID-19," adding, "We will also create opportunities for young farmers to enter the smart horticulture complex in the future."
