WB Urgently Requests Korea to Share COVID-19 Response Experience... Government "Establishing Cooperation System"
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyunjung] The World Bank (WB) has requested that South Korea share its response experience to the COVID-19 pandemic with developing countries. The Korean government announced that it will share related information and also establish a cooperative system with major international financial institutions, including the World Bank, to expand external support.
According to the Ministry of Economy and Finance on the 26th, the World Bank, through a letter from Makhta Diop, Vice President for Infrastructure, the previous day, stated that "capacity building and infrastructure acquisition are necessary to respond to the COVID-19 crisis," and requested that South Korea share its response experience with developing countries vulnerable to epidemic response.
The World Bank also evaluated that "digital technology will play a significant role in the COVID-19 response process," and "especially in South Korea, innovative ICT-based responses are an important factor in solving problems without lockdown measures," and requested that bilateral cooperation be provided if individual member countries request it.
The Korean government plans to organize South Korea's quarantine response system and economic response measures through collaboration among related ministries and agencies and share them with the World Bank. In addition, when promoting cooperative projects with the World Bank using trust funds in the future, it intends to expand support for health and medical sectors in developing countries, including epidemic response systems.
