Last Month, Daegu and Gyeongbuk Saw a Net Outflow of 6,151 People... Statistics Korea Says "Difficult to Attribute to COVID-19 Impact"
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Joo Sang-don] Last month, the net outflow population of Daegu and Gyeongbuk recorded 6,151 people. This is the largest net outflow scale among the 17 cities and provinces nationwide.
On the 25th, Statistics Korea announced the 'Domestic Population Movement Statistics for February 2020' containing this information.
According to this, 3,422 people moved from Daegu to other cities and provinces. Following that, 13 cities and provinces experienced net outflows, including Gyeongbuk (-2,729), Jeonnam (-2,067), Gyeongnam (-2,013), and Jeonbuk (-1,569).
On the other hand, four cities and provinces including Gyeonggi (13,798), Seoul (3,305), and Sejong (1,303) recorded net inflows.
An official from Statistics Korea explained, "In the case of Daegu and Gyeongbuk, the trend of net outflow to other cities and provinces has been continuing recently," and added, "It is still difficult to attribute last month's net outflow to the impact of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19)."

The number of movers nationwide in February was 780,000, an increase of 11.1% (78,000 people) compared to the same month last year. Among the total movers, 64.7% moved within the same city or province, and 35.3% moved between cities and provinces. The population movement rate (number of movers per 100 people) was 19.2%, up 1.3 percentage points compared to the same month last year.
