SK Telecom Partners with Alpha Holdings to Foster ICT Unicorn Companies
Business Agreement for SKT Promising Technology Commercialization and Investment Attraction Cooperation
[Asia Economy Reporter Seulgina Jo] SK Telecom announced on the 25th that it has signed a business agreement with Alpha Holdings, a company specializing in investment and business in advanced technology fields, to cooperate on technology commercialization and investment attraction for artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductors and other technologies.
This agreement was prepared to rapidly promote the separate commercialization of promising technologies owned by SK Telecom. Through this, the company plans to nurture ICT unicorn companies that can contribute to economic development in the 5G era.
The two companies will support the commercialization of promising technologies such as AI semiconductors and LiDAR, as well as the growth of independent corporations, through SK Telecom’s in-house promising technology commercialization program “Stargate,” which started in 2019. As the first collaboration, they will invest in Brighton Corporation, a laser optical technology specialist company established through SK Telecom’s “Stargate” program. Alpha Holdings has valued Brighton Corporation at approximately 12 billion KRW and will also participate in direct investment.
SK Telecom will transfer assets related to ultra-small laser optical technology to Brighton Corporation. Based on this, Brighton Corporation plans to promote the optical engine module business in domestic and overseas markets and start supplying to the U.S. and Chinese markets this year. The ultra-small laser optical technology developed by SK Telecom is expected to be applicable in various fields such as vehicle head-up displays, holograms, AI speakers, 3D holograms, and AR glasses.
