On the envelope, which showed clear signs of being pressed hard and hastily erased by small hands, the words “Please use this well for COVID-19” remained.
On the 19th, a girl who appeared to be in 2nd or 3rd grade of elementary school visited the Wangsimni Doseon-dong Community Service Center with her grandmother, carrying a piggy bank and an envelope.
When Park Yeon-jeong, an officer of the Welfare Team, asked how she came, the girl stood shyly without speaking, and the grandmother beside her said, “My granddaughter decided to donate her saved allowance as a COVID-19 donation, so we came together.”
When Officer Park asked the girl’s name, the grandmother left a message saying it was her granddaughter’s heartfelt wish and asked to use it well, then quickly left the community center. The total donation was 67,330 won. The envelope contained 46,000 won in bills, and the piggy bank held 21,330 won in coins.
A resident of Wangsimni Doseon-dong, upon hearing that the Residents’ Autonomous Committee was producing washable cotton masks with replaceable filters, donated KF94-certified mask filters made using the melt-blown technique. The amount donated was enough to produce about 300 cotton masks.
On the previous day, the 18th, a heavy red piggy bank arrived at the Wangsimni 2-dong Community Service Center. A woman in her 60s, a basic livelihood security recipient, willingly donated coins she had saved by economizing her benefits to help neighbors struggling due to COVID-19.
The piggy bank contained a total of 101,160 won in coins, including 424 100-won coins and 117 500-won coins. The woman earnestly requested that the donation be delivered anonymously and said that although it was not a large amount, she hoped it would help those who are more in need than herself.
