Park Juhyun "Resigns as Minsaengdang Party Leader... Hopes Small Business Owners and Self-Employed Will Take Over"
"We Will Continue to Strive for Honam, Small Business Owners, Common People, and Youth"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] Park Joo-hyun, co-representative of the Minsaeng Party, announced on the 23rd, "I am resigning from the position of party representative of the Minsaeng Party today."
At a press conference held at the National Assembly on the same day, Co-representative Park said, "After becoming co-representative of the Minsaeng Party, I aimed to make the Minsaeng Party the center of the third zone based in Honam by integrating with small business owners, youth parties, and subsequent mergers. In the 21st general election, I sought to form a third-zone electoral alliance to push out the conservative forces and create opportunities for economically disadvantaged groups to enter the National Assembly. However, I was unable to achieve this goal amid the confusion during the three-party merger process," he said.
He added, "Fortunately, the Minsaeng Party has resolved all previous conflicts and made a fresh start with an election system, reaching a consensus to work together with small business owners and self-employed people. Now, I will vacate my position as party representative and hope that small business owners and self-employed people will take on the co-representative roles and make our party solely a party for the livelihood and by the livelihood," he stated.
He continued, "What is regrettable is that despite the three parties based in Honam merging and leading democratization and reform, the reality is that the still underdeveloped and still discriminated Honam spirit cannot be proudly asserted. In this regard, I am resigning from the party representative position as a way of taking responsibility," he added.
