[Asia Economy Beijing=Special Correspondent Park Sun-mi] On the 22nd, China reported 39 new COVID-19 confirmed cases and 9 additional deaths in one day.
On the 23rd, the National Health Commission of China (NHC) announced that as of midnight, 39 new COVID-19 confirmed cases were added. All were patients infected outside China and imported into the country. No new internally transmitted cases were found anywhere in China, including Hubei Province, where COVID-19 cases had been concentrated.
The 39 imported cases in one day came from Beijing (10), Shanghai (10), Fujian Province (6), Guangdong Province (6), Shandong Province (2), Gansu Province (2), Zhejiang Province (1), Henan Province (1), and Chongqing City (1). The total cumulative number of imported COVID-19 cases so far is 353.
The total number of confirmed COVID-19 patients counted by China to date is 81,093. Among them, 72,703 have recovered and been discharged, and 3,270 have died. Currently, 5,120 confirmed patients are receiving treatment in hospitals, 136 are suspected cases, and 10,701 close contacts are under medical observation.
Outside mainland China but within the Greater China region, a total of 507 confirmed cases have been reported: Hong Kong 317 (100 discharged, 4 deaths), Macau 21 (10 discharged), and Taiwan 169 (28 discharged, 2 deaths).
Contrary to the progress in COVID-19 control within China, the number of imported cases from overseas continues to rise, prompting the government to focus its efforts on blocking imported cases.
Starting from this day, China is implementing a measure to have all international flights destined for Beijing first land at nearby city airports for quarantine and epidemic prevention procedures.
According to the "Notice No. 2 on Priority Landing Sites for International Flights Bound for Beijing," from midnight on this day, all international flights to Beijing will first land at nearby airports to undergo temperature checks, entry procedures, luggage disinfection, and other epidemic prevention steps, and only passengers who meet the reboarding conditions can board the same flight again to proceed to Beijing.
