Gwangju City 'Promotes' Regional Industry Customized Job Creation Support Project
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 22nd that it will actively promote the Regional Industry Customized Job Creation Support Project.
The "Regional Industry Customized Job Creation Support Project," which has been implemented since 2006, is a job contest project where local governments propose job projects tailored to the characteristics of regions and industries for job creation and human resource development, and the Ministry of Employment and Labor selects projects and supports project expenses.
This year's project will invest the largest-ever budget of 4.85 billion KRW in national funds and 1.65 billion KRW in local funds to promote a total of 15 job projects, including 12 regional innovation project businesses and 3 general projects, implemented together with the Gwangju Regional Human Resources Development Committee Employment Innovation Promotion Team.
Among them, the regional innovation project business, which aims to discover and foster regional innovation leading projects, secured 3.88 billion KRW in national funds, ranking second nationwide among 17 cities and provinces, following Busan.
Gwangju City will additionally match 1.36 billion KRW in local funds to operate three projects worth 5.24 billion KRW: "Preemptive Response to Dual Crisis (Representative Industry and Talent Outflow)," "Demand-Supply Balanced Job Creation," and "Core Industry Convergence Transformation."
The three projects consist of 12 detailed projects including ▲Training specialized personnel in future automobile research and development (R&D) ▲Training specialized personnel in IoT-Air home appliance convergence technology ▲Discovering and certifying good small and medium enterprises and supporting job seeker matching ▲Expanding representative industry win-win jobs ▲Job evaluation analysis and employment base establishment ▲Jump-up package support for Gwangju small and medium enterprises ▲Innovative growth support projects responding to the 4th Industrial Revolution ▲Startup support bridge-type venture product development support ▲Establishment of integrated youth job delivery system ▲Navigation support for small and medium enterprises utilizing retired excellent technology experts ▲Training specialized personnel in negative pressure and air quality facilities ▲Market-leading air industry fostering company support.
The projects involve 10 executing organizations with expertise in various fields, including Gwangju Green Car Promotion Agency, Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute, Korea Photonics Industry Promotion Association, Korea Automotive Technology Institute, Gwangju Technopark, Gwangju Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Gwangju Design Center, Regional Employment Policy Research Institute, Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology, and Korea Air Safety Institute.
The general projects, which are customized education projects linked to regional industries, consist of three detailed projects: ▲Training personnel for development of materials and parts in Gwangju medical device industry ▲Training specialized dental technicians for digital customized prosthesis design/manufacturing process ▲Establishment of specialized care services for hospitalized children and personnel training. University-industry cooperation groups from universities such as Nambu University, Health University, and Gwangju Women's University participate as executing organizations.
Gwangju City expects results such as creating 1,030 jobs, supporting 151 companies, and training 291 personnel through the Regional Industry Customized Job Creation Support Project.

Park Nam-eon, Director of the Job Economy Office of Gwangju City, said, "Through customized job support projects tailored to the characteristics of the Gwangju region, we will preemptively respond to crises in representative industries such as automobiles and home appliances, and establish a virtuous cycle system by creating quality jobs that match demand and supply to resolve labor market imbalances." He added, "I hope the executing organizations actively promote the project to revitalize the local economy, which has been stagnated due to COVID-19, and to discover differentiated jobs unique to Gwangju City."
