The city announced on the 22nd that it will carry out the "Incheon Airport Development Plan as a Hub for Inter-Korean Exchanges" project for eight months from next month to November, with a budget of 150 million KRW.
Through this research, the city plans to investigate North Korea's aviation market demand, including aviation facilities and routes, and find ways to utilize Incheon Airport as a hub for inter-Korean exchanges by linking it with Incheon Port and the West Sea Peace Road (Yeongjong~Sindo~Ganghwa~Kaesong).
Additionally, the study will examine the role of aviation during German reunification through overseas cases, and investigate related matters such as aviation routes, facilities, and strategies necessary to develop Incheon International Airport as a hub for inter-Korean exchanges, including budget and expected effects.
Currently, Chinese airports serve as gateways for air traffic to North Korea, but Incheon is expected to become a transfer hub for foreign tourists visiting North Korea in the near future.
During the research process, expert meetings and public hearings will be held to build consensus on inter-Korean exchanges.
