Post-COVID-19 Focus on 'Hygiene Consumption'... Sales of Dryers and Dishwashers Increase
Sales of Dryers, Clothing Care Devices, and Dishwashers Increase by 26.6%, 38.5%, and 950%
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-seon] With the rise of 'hygiene consumption' due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), sales of dryers, clothing care devices, and dishwashers have increased.
According to recent home appliance sales data from Emart on the 22nd, from January 20, when COVID-19 began, to the 19th of this month, sales of dryers and clothing care devices increased by 26.6% and 38.5%, respectively, compared to the same period last year. As a result, the sales ranking of fabric care appliances (large and small home appliances), which include dryers and clothing care devices, rose four places from 6th last year to 2nd. Fabric care appliances surpassed essential appliances such as refrigerators and vacuum cleaners, as well as home care appliances including air purifiers and air fryers, and small kitchen appliances.
As more people refrained from going out and ate home-cooked meals three times a day, dishwasher sales increased by approximately 950% compared to the previous year. Sales of functional kitchen detergents, including those specifically for dishwashers, also grew by 32% during the same period. Emart recently introduced about 10 new types of dishwasher-specific detergents. They diversified the product lineup with tablet-type detergents and all-in-one products combining detergent and rinse, which were not previously handled.
