Iran COVID-19 Cases Exceed 20,000... Deaths 1,556 'Fatality Rate 7.5%' (Update)
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] The number of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) in Iran has surpassed 20,000 within a month since the first outbreak.
The Iranian Ministry of Health announced on the 21st (local time) that the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases increased by 966 from the previous day, reaching 20,610. It exceeded 20,000 just over a month after the first confirmed case on the 19th of last month. However, while new confirmed cases had been over 1,000 for nine consecutive days since the 12th, the number fell below 1,000 for the first time in nine days on this day.
The death toll in Iran increased by 123 from the previous day, totaling 1,556. The daily number of new deaths had also increased for 11 consecutive days until the previous day, but the graph turned downward on this day.
The fatality rate rose by 0.2 percentage points from the previous day to 7.5%. The fatality rate refers to the ratio of deaths caused by a disease to the number of patients with that disease.
The cumulative number of recovered patients in Iran is 7,635, with a recovery rate of 37.0%. Iran has the second highest number of recovered patients after China.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said, "The government will take all measures to return economic production to normal," and added, "The spread of COVID-19 is expected to slow down in 2 to 3 weeks, so please refrain from traveling and gatherings during that period."
