Prime Minister Jeong: "Economy Stalled Due to COVID-19... Will Mobilize All Means and Resources"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwangho Lee] Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun said on the 20th, "The government recognizes this as an emergency situation and will mobilize all possible means and resources to provide support."
On the same day, Prime Minister Chung held a meeting of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters (CDSCH) for COVID-19 response at the Government Seoul Office and stated, "It has been exactly two months since the first patient occurred in our country. As everyone has engaged in the war against COVID-19, daily life has disappeared and the economy has come to a halt."
Prime Minister Chung emphasized, "Due to the global pandemic, an unprecedented global economic recession is becoming a reality. All economic agents have already suffered significant damage, and it is difficult to estimate how much more pain will continue. Extraordinary measures are needed in times of crisis. I hope that you will actively promote this on the premise that any bold measures can be implemented."
He added, "Since midnight yesterday, special entry procedures have been applied to all incoming travelers. After personally inspecting the site, it seems that waiting times have increased, and there may be a risk of infection while waiting. It is necessary to expand facilities for isolating symptomatic individuals, and the utilization of the Incheon Living Treatment Center should also be considered."
