[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Suwan] The owner of Yeondon, a pork cutlet restaurant famous as Pobangteo Donkatsu in the SBS variety show 'Baek Jong-won's Alley Restaurant' ('Alley Restaurant'), wished for the recovery of the owner of a Wonju Kalguksu restaurant who is battling cancer.
On the 19th, the Yeondon owner posted on his Instagram, "A photo taken with the owner when I stopped by to say hello in July after filming in Wonju, Gangwon Province in June 2019," along with several photos, saying, "He warmly welcomed me and even packed some red bean porridge, which I enjoyed very much."
In the released photos, the pork cutlet restaurant owner is seen posing warmly with the Wonju Kalguksu restaurant owner. Their bright smiles especially catch the eye.
He continued, "I shed many tears after watching today's broadcast. Please recover quickly, sir. I will pray for you. Everyone, please send lots of support and prayers. I love you very much, sir," conveying a message of encouragement.
Earlier, the 'Alley Restaurant' episode aired on the 18th was a 'Crisis Management Special,' conducting emergency inspections of stores struggling due to the novel coronavirus and other issues.
During this process, it was revealed that the owner of the Wonju Kalguksu restaurant was diagnosed with cancer and undergoing chemotherapy.
The owner said, "Because of COVID-19 and my poor health, I put up a notice to close for a week to rest," adding, "I had surgery in Seoul. I was diagnosed with cancer. Customers probably noticed because I wore a hat. I lost my hair and couldn’t go to the kitchen. I tried to hide it, but I think they figured it out."
He continued, "It was discovered during a regular health checkup last December, six months after appearing on 'Alley Restaurant.' I am currently undergoing surgery and chemotherapy."
Baek Jong-won received this news via video call and shed tears, saying, "The world is really cruel."
