Busan Food and Drug Administration Strengthens Spring Shellfish Toxin Safety Management ... Provides Testing Technology Support to Local Governments
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kang Woo-kwon] The Busan Regional Office of the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety will strengthen safety management such as marine area management, collection, and inspection together with related local organizations and local governments in the region during the period when shellfish toxins frequently occur.
The Busan MFDS announced on the 19th that from March to June, it will conduct collection and inspection of shellfish and tunicates distributed in the Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam areas together with related organizations in the region, and if the allowable standards are exceeded, measures such as banning distribution and sales, recall, and disposal of the relevant seafood will be taken.
For local governments where shellfish toxin testing is difficult, support for laboratory precision testing such as manpower support and equipment rental will also be provided. Joint guidance and inspection will be conducted for marine areas where shellfish toxins are detected above the allowable standards, and real-time information on shellfish toxin occurrence and inspection status will be provided through mobile phone text messages (SMS) and Policy Mail Service (PMS).
