Heojeongim Appointed as Acting Chairperson of Hampyeong County Council
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] Heo Jeong-im, Vice Chairman of the Hampyeong County Council in Jeonnam, will take on the role of Acting Chairman.
According to the Hampyeong County Council on the 15th, the 256th extraordinary session was held at the council plenary hall on the 13th, and it was decided that Vice Chairman Heo Jeong-im will act as the chairman for the currently vacant first half term.
This is in accordance with Article 51 of the Local Autonomy Act (Vice Chairman Acting as Chairman) and Article 10 of the Hampyeong County Council Meeting Rules, which state that the vice chairman acts as chairman in case of an accident involving the chairman.
Previously, Jeong Cheol-hee, the former chairman of the 8th Hampyeong County Council for the first half term, voluntarily resigned from both the chairman and council member positions on the 11th due to his candidacy in the Hampyeong County Governor by-election.
Accordingly, the county council held an emergency council members' meeting on the 10th, the day before Jeong’s resignation, with all seven council members present to discuss the issue of the vacant first half term chairman position scheduled until June 30.
As a result of the discussion, all attending council members agreed to minimize the legislative vacancy and decided not to elect a new chairman but to have Vice Chairman Heo Jeong-im act as chairman for the remaining first half term.

Heo Jeong-im, Acting Chairman of the Hampyeong County Council, stated, “With both the county governor and the council chairman positions vacant, the concerns of local residents are deepening day by day. Although I may lack ability, I will faithfully fulfill the council’s original function of sharing the difficulties and suffering of the residents during the remaining first half term, as I have been entrusted with the chairman position representing the citizens and the council.”
