Grandmother Kim Gap-sun, supported with materials from Boseong County, began volunteering to sew cloth masks from the 12th and is producing masks through at-home volunteer activities. She expressed her desire to participate directly after seeing the volunteer recruitment announcement for cloth mask makers sent through the Volunteer Center.
As her history of consistently volunteering through talent donation at local community centers became known, and it was revealed that she is a family member of an independence activist, she earned the affectionate nickname ‘Mask Volunteer Grandma.’
Upon hearing the news, Kim Cheol-woo, the governor of Boseong County, visited grandmother Kim’s home and expressed his gratitude, saying, “Boseong County has been able to develop because of seniors like you.”
Grandmother Kim said, “Even though I am old, I am happy and feel rewarded to be able to help someone,” adding, “I want to meet the target quantity even if it means reducing my sleep.”
In response, Governor Kim urged, “Volunteering is good, but please don’t overexert yourself considering your health,” to which grandmother Kim replied, “The schedule can’t be delayed because of me,” moving those around her.
