Installation of Fire Extinguishers and Fire Hydrants for Prevention at Achasan, Gwangjin-gu
Fire Extinguishers Installed at Key Intersections and High-Traffic Areas on Achasan Dullegil Hiking Trail... Fire Hydrant Installation Underway at Main Entrances of Achasan Hiking Trails, Expected Completion by End of This Month
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Seon-gap) has begun installing fire extinguishers and fire hydrants on Achasan to enable rapid fire suppression in the event of a forest fire.
Achasan, which spans Gwangjin-gu and Guri City, is adjacent to urban residential areas, raising concerns that if a forest fire occurs, damage could spread to nearby homes.
To address these concerns and protect residents' safety, the district has been working with the Gwangjin Fire Station since last year to establish a forest fire suppression system.
As a result, in October last year, the district received a special disaster safety grant from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and completed the installation of seven forest fire extinguishers that citizens can use directly on Achasan in March this year.
The extinguishers were installed at major intersections such as the Achasan Dulle-gil trail and hiking paths, where many hikers pass, so that anyone can use them immediately in case of a forest fire.
Additionally, the district is installing forest fire hydrants in front of the Achasan Management Office, at the multipurpose sports field in Gingeol Park, and at the entrance to the hiking trail in Ppeongtwigi Park, with a total of three hydrants expected to be completed by the end of March.
Once the hydrants are installed, existing forest fire suppression facilities such as high-pressure water pipes and fire hoses can be used more efficiently during a forest fire, enabling sufficient water supply to fire trucks and helping to suppress fires quickly.
The district plans to gradually expand the installation of extinguishers on Achasan and will conduct fire drills using the hydrants in cooperation with the Gwangjin Fire Station in April after the hydrant installations are completed.
Kim Seon-gap, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, "The fire extinguishers and hydrants being installed this time are expected to help quickly suppress forest fires without missing the golden time for fire suppression in the event of a fire on Achasan," and added, "We will continue to do our best to realize a safe Gwangjin where residents can feel secure from disasters such as forest fires."
