New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced at a press conference on the 12th (local time) that gatherings of more than 500 people are prohibited. Accordingly, Broadway musical theaters in Manhattan, New York, will also close starting from that day.
Governor Cuomo also instructed that for venues with a capacity of fewer than 500 people, the number of participants at events should be reduced to around 250. Neighboring New Jersey has banned gatherings of more than 250 people.
At the press conference, Governor Cuomo warned of a large-scale local outbreak, saying, "New York will witness the tragedies seen in China, Korea, and Italy."
As of the morning of the 12th, Johns Hopkins University reported 1,323 COVID-19 patients in the United States. In New York State alone, 112 new patients were confirmed, increasing the total to 328.
Various cultural facilities in New York have also decided to close. The New York Metropolitan Museum, the New York Metropolitan Opera, Carnegie Hall, and the New York Philharmonic will remain closed until the end of April.
