Minsaengdang and Proportional Alliance Party 'Different Dreams'... Yuseongyeop Changes Position in One Week
Kim Jeong-hwa "Our Party Stabbing Itself in the Neck"
Park Joo-hyun "Must Stop Forces Behind Park Geun-hye Impeachment"
Yoo Seong-yeop "Need Alliance Against Anti-Corruption and Anti-United Party"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] The leadership of the Minsheng Party is voicing differing opinions regarding participation in the proportional representation coalition party. Kim Jeong-hwa, co-representative from the Bareunmirae Party, has clearly expressed opposition, while Park Joo-hyun, co-representative from the Democratic Peace Party, advocates conditional support. Yu Seong-yeop, co-representative from the Alternative New Party, changed his stance from opposition to support within a week.
At the Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly on the 11th, Co-representative Kim stated, “If we participate in the proportional representation coalition party, it would be like stabbing our own party’s neck, which should unite the centrist reform forces.” He emphasized, “We did not create this party to gain a few more seats. The Minsheng Party was born to overcome the evils of the imperial presidential system and the two-party system dominated by major parties.”
Supreme Council member Lee In-hee also criticized, saying, “If the proportional representation coalition party, which is a satellite party of the Democratic Party of Korea, is established and surrounding parties participate, what will happen in this election?” He added, “Our people will once again be forced to choose only between the progressive Democratic Party and the conservative United Future Party, which is as clear as day.”
On the other hand, Co-representative Park emphasized, “We must overcome this crisis through a third-zone electoral coalition led by future youth generations and economically vulnerable groups such as small business owners.” He stressed, “We need to pressure the Democratic Party to abandon the proportional Democratic Party and swiftly proceed with a third-zone electoral coalition to push out the Future Korea Party.” He also stated, “We must prevent the revival of the Park Geun-hye impeachment faction. That is the spirit of the three-party merger and the reason for the Minsheng Party’s existence.”
The Alternative New Party faction also supported the Democratic Peace Party faction. In particular, Co-representative Yu suddenly expressed support, unlike last week. Yu said, “I speak from a slightly different perspective than Co-representative Kim regarding the proportional representation coalition party, and in-depth discussions should take place within the party going forward.” He added, “If we fail to stop the resurgence of the United Future Party and the entrenched corrupt forces now, it will result in a greater failure. An anti-corruption, anti-United Future Party alliance is absolutely necessary.”
Previously, after the Supreme Council meeting on the 4th, Co-representative Yu told reporters, “I oppose satellite parties themselves, and moreover, I see no value in coalition parties.”

Supreme Council member Hwang In-cheol said, “The people command our Minsheng Party. Under any circumstances, we must block the corrupt forces from becoming the first party or even gaining a majority of seats.” He added, “We must find ways to maximize proportional representation seats.” Targeting the Bareunmirae Party faction, Hwang sharply stated, “At least publicly, personal subjective opinions should be restrained. It is unacceptable to present personal opinions as if they were the party’s official stance.”
