"Let's Create the Joguk Suhodang" vs "Stop Immediately" Fierce Debate Among Joguk Supporters Over Party Formation (Summary)
"Let's Found the Jokuk Solidarity Party. That Alone Restores the Honor of Jokuk Supporters"
Jokuk: "I Will Not Engage in Any Party Founding Efforts"
Some Supporters: "Stop the Founding of the Jokuk Suho Party Immediately"
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Seung-gon] Supporters of former Minister of Justice Cho Kuk have launched the creation of the 'Cho Kuk Protection Party,' amid which controversies are emerging. Supporters are criticizing whether permission was obtained from former Minister Cho and are urging the cessation of the party formation efforts.
According to the National Election Commission on the 10th, the Preparatory Committee for the Formation of the Cho Kuk Protection Party (tentative name) officially reported its establishment to the Election Commission on the 4th.
The representatives of the Preparatory Committee for the Cho Kuk Protection Party are Park Jung-kyung and Lee Tae-geon. In their founding statement, they claimed, "Recently, we have witnessed the ruthless violence inflicted by the corrupt and evil political prosecutors on the minister and his family, who were trying to carry out reforms under the people's mandate."
They continued, "The public could only watch in dismay as about 100 prosecutors, who live off the state budget, mobilized and committed inhumane acts over several months, even going through the diaries of the children, just because the minister was leading reforms."
The Preparatory Committee for the Cho Kuk Protection Party opened a Naver Band titled 'Let's form the Cho Kuk Solidarity Party. This is the only way to restore the honor of Cho Kuk and his supporters. Please join us.' Currently, 198 members have joined the band.
However, conflicts surrounding the formation of the 'Cho Kuk Protection Party' are also emerging. Even among supporters of former Minister Cho, critical opinions and resistance to the party formation are appearing.
One citizen commented on the Facebook page of Park Jung-kyung, the representative of the Preparatory Committee, saying, "Cho Kuk Protection Party, because of people like you, the overwhelming majority of citizens who wish for the success of the Moon Jae-in administration are being called pro-Moon or pro-Cho by the entrenched forces. What right do you have to form a party using former Minister Cho's name without his permission?"
They added, "Have you not seen the Election Commission's legal interpretation that parties with personal names like Ahn Cheol-soo Party cannot be registered? For whom and for what purpose are you engaging in such behavior? Please remove Cho Kuk's name from the party formation immediately. This is very inappropriate and highly unpleasant behavior," reiterating their criticism.
Other supporters of former Minister Cho also pointed out, "Please stop (forming the Cho Kuk Protection Party)! Why are you making Minister Cho suffer?" and "If you care about former Minister Cho, stop immediately."
As supporters of former Minister of Justice Cho Kuk prepare to form the 'Cho Kuk Protection Party,' former Minister Cho stated that he is "not participating in or involved with the party formation efforts."
On the 10th, former Minister Cho posted on his Facebook, "Amid various movements to create new parties ahead of the general election, my name has been mentioned, and since I have received inquiries about this, I am responding collectively," and made this clear.
Former Minister Cho stated, "I am not participating in or involved with any party formation efforts." He added, "I am focusing on taking care of my family, who have been devastated by the prosecution's investigation, and on proving the unfairness of the prosecution's indictment in court based on facts and legal principles."
