Mapo-gu Increases Scale and Intensity of COVID-19 Quarantine Measures
Saemaeul Leaders' Autonomous Quarantine Team to Conduct Disinfection Activities Three Times a Week from March, Expanding Locations...Direct Management for Vulnerable Groups with Staff Visits for Temperature Checks and Prevention Guidelines...Thorough Disinfection of Public Facilities Including Rainwater Drains, Manholes, and Outdoor Sports Facilities
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Mapo-gu (Mayor Yudonggyun) is increasing the scale and intensity of quarantine activities to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the local community.
Quarantine activities in Mapo-gu, involving not only public officials but also local residents, are becoming more thorough in terms of timing, location, and methods.
First, the Mapo-gu Saemaeul Leaders Autonomous Quarantine Team, consisting of 48 members, increased its quarantine activities from twice a week to three times a week starting in March, focusing on areas with high foot traffic such as Hongdae and traditional markets since early February.
The scope of quarantine activities has also been expanded to cover the entire district, including schools, public institutions, churches, public restrooms, playgrounds, and subway stations.
Quarantine activities are also being conducted in the living spaces of vulnerable groups such as elderly living alone and people with disabilities. To this end, the district has distributed portable disinfectant sprays to all 16 neighborhoods in Mapo-gu, and staff members visit vulnerable households directly to measure body temperature and provide COVID-19 prevention guidelines.
For general residents, neighborhood community centers rent out manual sprayers containing disinfectants so that residents can disinfect their living environments on their own.
Additionally, disinfection and quarantine activities targeting rainwater drains and manholes in the area from Hapjeong Station to Hongdae Entrance Station, where there is a large floating population including tourists, will be conducted twice a week for a total of 10 sessions until the end of April.
The disinfection work, which began in February, involves spraying disinfectant on 1,900 rainwater drains and 990 manholes in the area to suppress potential infection concerns among residents and tourists.
Moreover, the district recently completed a comprehensive disinfection and sterilization of outdoor sports facilities. All outdoor sports facilities in Mapo-gu (9 soccer fields and playgrounds, 42 exercise equipment locations with 461 pieces) have been disinfected, and the district plans to carry out these activities periodically until the spread of COVID-19 stops.
Currently, the district has temporarily suspended the use of public sports facilities and outdoor playgrounds where many people gather to prevent community infection spread.
