Jangseong-gun Supports 'Non-Rice Crop Cultivation' to Stabilize Farmers' Income
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Oh Gilsu] On the 10th, Jangseong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that it will promote the ‘Paddy Field Alternative Crop Cultivation Support Project’ to ensure appropriate rice production and improve the self-sufficiency rate of food crops.
The ‘Paddy Field Alternative Crop Cultivation Support Project’ is a program that provides a fixed amount of support per area to farmers who cultivate other income crops such as forage crops and legumes instead of rice in paddy fields to address the problem of oversupply.
Farmers or corporations registered as agricultural management entities are eligible to apply for the project.
The support targets are farmland that participated in alternative crop cultivation in paddy fields during 2018-2019 or farmland confirmed to have cultivated rice at least once between 2017 and 2019.
Additionally, fallow land applicants must be actual cultivators confirmed to have farmed for at least one year during the recent four years (2016-2019) with supporting documentation.
The eligible crops include all annual and perennial crops except for eight items with concerns of oversupply (radish, napa cabbage, chili pepper, green onion, garlic, onion, potato, sweet potato). This year, the support amount per hectare is 4.3 million KRW for forage crops, 2.7 million KRW for general and green manure crops, 2.55 million KRW for legumes, and 2.1 million KRW for fallow land.
Farmers wishing to participate in the project can apply at the administrative welfare centers of the towns and townships where their farmland is located by June 30.
