They visited five households, including elderly living alone and middle-aged single-person households who needed care such as welfare checks due to the reduced activity range caused by COVID-19, delivering essential goods packages including side dishes, staple foods, fruits, and beverages, and checked on the well-being of the recipients.
For households with elderly aged 65 or older, regular annual surveys are conducted, and social safety nets such as basic pensions and care services are well established. However, for middle-aged households, who are of working age, there is relatively less social interest compared to the elderly and children, so it is necessary to build a welfare safety net for the middle-aged group.
Cho Kyung-eon, head of Jakcheon-myeon, said, “The prolonged COVID-19 pandemic can lead to social isolation, making welfare checks and management more necessary at this time,” adding, “We will establish a preventive care system through measures involving public institutions and the local community.”
