President Moon's approval rating at 47.9%... 0.8%p difference from disapproval rate [Realmeter]
[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] A public opinion poll has shown that the gap between positive and negative evaluations of President Moon Jae-in's performance in office has narrowed to less than 1 percentage point. It is analyzed that the government's all-out response to the mask crisis had a positive impact.
According to Realmeter, which conducted the poll commissioned by YTN from the 2nd to the 6th, the positive evaluation of President Moon's performance rose by 1.8 percentage points from the previous week's aggregate to 47.9%, announced on the 9th. On the other hand, the negative evaluation dropped by 2.0 percentage points to 48.7%.
The gap between positive and negative evaluations is 0.8 percentage points, within the margin of error. In the fourth week of February, the gap widened beyond the margin of error (4.6 percentage points), but narrowed again to less than 1 percentage point in just one week.
As the government launched an all-out response including mask measures, it is analyzed that the overall upward trend was led not only by the 'core support group' of people in their 30s but also by the broader progressive camp.
By age group, the increase was largest among those in their 30s (45.4%→54.6%, negative evaluation 42.1%). There was also an increase among those in their 40s (57.7%→61.3%, negative evaluation 36.5%). By region, the rise was significant in Gyeonggi·Incheon (48.5%→54.6%, negative evaluation 42.9%).
By party support, notable increases were seen among Min Saeng Party supporters (19.0%→28.4%, negative evaluation 69.4%), non-affiliated voters (20.0%→27.1%, negative evaluation 61.0%), and Minjung Party supporters (55.2%→61.2%, negative evaluation 29.0%).
In party support ratings, the rise of the People’s Party led by Ahn Cheol-soo was notable. The People’s Party recorded 4.7%, up 3.0 percentage points from the previous week. Ahn’s direct volunteer work in treating COVID-19 patients is analyzed as a factor for the increase.
