Yoon Ho-geun, the former director of the National Opera Company, was dismissed by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism last May amid allegations of hiring irregularities. Five months after Yoon's dismissal, in October of last year, the Ministry appointed Park Hyung-sik, former president of the Uijeongbu Arts Center, as the new director of the National Opera Company.
However, immediately after receiving the dismissal notice, Yoon filed an administrative lawsuit against the Ministry, claiming the dismissal was unjust. On the 8th, the 6th Division of the Seoul Administrative Court ruled in favor of Yoon.
The court canceled the dismissal order issued by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to former director Yoon Ho-geun in May last year and ruled that the Ministry must bear the litigation costs. In particular, the court added that the execution of the dismissal order would be suspended until the final judgment is confirmed.
Although the Ministry has expressed its intention to appeal, the recent court ruling is expected to cause inevitable confusion within the National Opera Company for some time. Park Hyung-sik has already been serving as director since his appointment in October last year, while Yoon Ho-geun is reportedly planning to return to work starting from the 9th.
