Gyeonggi Agricultural Research and Extension Services Receives Green Climate Award
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The Gyeonggi-do Agricultural Research and Extension Services received the Green Climate Award.
Gyeonggi Agricultural Research Institute announced on the 8th that it won the Excellence Award in the public sector at the '2020 Korea Green Climate Award' hosted by the National Assembly Climate Change Forum on the 6th.
Now in its 11th year, the Green Climate Award is the first comprehensive climate change award in Korea, established by the National Assembly Climate Change Forum in 2010 to encourage organizations or individuals who have made significant contributions to national climate change response and green nation promotion, and to spread exemplary cases.
Gyeonggi Agricultural Research Institute jointly conducted research with Pungnong Co., Ltd. to develop a fertilization technology using a compound fertilizer containing an element decomposition inhibitor that reduces chemical fertilizer usage and greenhouse gas emissions in the agricultural sector, and registered a patent in 2018.
Pungnong Co., Ltd., which received the technology transfer, launched the product and distributed 1,500 tons in the first year. In particular, in the third year, 2019, it achieved a distribution of 6,054 tons.

Kim Seok-cheol, director of Gyeonggi Agricultural Research Institute, emphasized, "It is necessary to practice reducing greenhouse gas emissions starting from the agriculture field sensitive to climate change, and for this, continuous research and development and dissemination of climate-smart technology are required. With this Green Climate Award, the dissemination effect in the field has been highly evaluated, and I believe it will be a turning point for future climate change response research, development, and dissemination by Gyeonggi Agricultural Research Institute."
