Former Noryangjin Market Merchants Sue Dongjak District Mayor... "Illegal Administrative Enforcement"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bong-gi] The Citizens' Countermeasure Committee for the Old Noryangjin Fish Market announced on the afternoon of the 6th that they will file a complaint against Dongjak-gu Mayor Lee Chang-woo on charges of special assault, property damage, and violation of the Animal Protection Act in relation to the removal of street stalls.
On the early morning of the 21st of last month, Dongjak-gu deployed about 300 employees and 300 security company staff to dismantle 20 street stalls set up in front of Noryangjin Exit 1. In response, the Citizens' Countermeasure Committee claimed it was an "illegal forced removal," stating that "many people were assaulted during the administrative enforcement process, and personal belongings were damaged and stolen." They added, "The protest site and banners resisting the modernization project of Noryangjin Fish Market were also removed," and "Two cats raised by merchants were taken away, and their fate is unknown."
It is reported that the complaint they submitted also includes a request to investigate illegal elements that occurred during the administrative enforcement process.
