Moon's approval rating slightly rises to 47.6%... People's Party jumps to 3rd place in support [Realmeter]
[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] A public opinion poll revealed that President Moon Jae-in's approval rating for his administration rebounded, narrowing the gap with disapproval to just over 1 percentage point. The People Party, led by Ahn Cheol-soo, rose to third place in party support rankings, boosted by Ahn's volunteer medical work related to the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
According to Realmeter, which conducted the survey commissioned by tbs from the 2nd to the 4th, President Moon's positive evaluation of his administration increased by 1.5 percentage points from the previous week's aggregate to 47.6%, announced on the 5th. Meanwhile, negative evaluations rose by 2.0 percentage points to 48.7%.
The gap between positive and negative evaluations narrowed again within the margin of error (±2.5%p) to 1.1 percentage points in just one week. Notably, positive evaluations increased significantly among conservatives, people in their 30s in Gyeonggi-Incheon and Daegu-Gyeongbuk regions, students, the unemployed, and labor workers.
Regarding party support, the Democratic Party of Korea recorded 42.9%, up 1.9 percentage points from the previous week, while the United Future Party dropped 1.2 percentage points to 29.8%.
The People Party saw a substantial rise of 2.9 percentage points to 4.6%, surpassing the Justice Party (4.3%) for the first time since its founding. Ahn's medical volunteer work in the Daegu region is interpreted as having positively influenced the support rate.
Other parties recorded the following: Minsheng Party 4.0%, Our Republican Party 1.7%, and Minjung Party 0.8%.
In the proportional representation party vote intention survey for the April 15 general election, the results were: Democratic Party 36.7%, Future Korea Party 27.7%, Justice Party 9.1%, People Party 6.5%, Minsheng Party 4.0%, Our Republican Party 1.8%, and Minjung Party 1.4%.
