The dance-permitted establishments (commonly called clubs) clustered near Hongdae are popular among young people, but many are enclosed spaces with poor ventilation, raising concerns about the high possibility of COVID-19 spread.
Accordingly, in response to the recent nationwide increase in confirmed COVID-19 cases, the district judged that continuing operations of dance-permitted establishments could be risky and held a related countermeasure meeting with the Hongdae Club Tour Association on the 3rd.
As a result of the meeting, a total of 16 dance-permitted establishments agreed to participate in Mapo-gu’s voluntary closure campaign to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Accordingly, participating clubs will enter voluntary closure for one week from March 6 to 12 and plan to take measures such as posting self-produced informational placards at their entrances.
In addition, the district is encouraging the remaining 28 establishments out of a total of 44 dance-permitted establishments in the area, which are not included in this closure campaign, to participate as much as possible.
The district, having fostered a voluntary closure participation atmosphere among the establishments, plans to focus more on expanding participating establishments and to present additional support measures.
A district official stated, “Regarding this closure campaign, the district will produce and support informational placards and focus more on campaigns for compliance with daily life rules and quarantine activities.”
