Gokseong-gun, Village Flower Road Project Planting Happiness in Full Bloom
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] This year, the villages throughout Gokseong-gun are expected to bloom brightly with flowers cultivated by the residents.
The county announced on the 4th that through the 2020 Happy Village Flower Road Creation Project, it will support four new villages with 8 million won each to create flower paths.
Additionally, 2 to 4 million won will be provided for maintenance of the eight village flower path sections created last year.
The Happy Village Flower Road Creation Project is entirely managed by the residents. From selecting the types of flowers and planting locations to directly creating and maintaining the flower paths, everything is done by the hands of the village residents. Since the project is not implemented uniformly by the authorities but proceeds according to each village's characteristics and preferences, more diverse flower paths are born.
The village flower path creation project is meaningful not only as a result of improving the village landscape but also in the process of carrying out the project itself. Recently, there has been increasing demand in our society for resident autonomy and direct democracy.
The village flower path creation project strengthens compromise, harmony, and a sense of responsibility through the process of residents gathering ideas and directly promoting the project, and it also has an internal effect of enhancing the capacity to solve village problems.
Moreover, Gokseong-gun believes that residents' interest and activities are especially necessary to revive the depressed local atmosphere caused by COVID-19 and to restore the disappearing community culture.
The reason for providing maintenance support to villages that completed the project last year also reflects Gokseong-gun's intention to ensure that resident activities do not end as one-time events but continue sustainably.
The village flower path project is also expected to provide attractions to visitors such as tourists. In May, when the residents' sweat blossoms into radiant flowers, the Gokseong-gun World Rose Festival will be held.
Tourists visiting the Rose Festival will stay throughout the villages and experience serendipity, that is, unexpected joy. Gokseong-gun also expects to be able to turn rural daily life into a tourism resource through the creation of flower paths.
A village resident who wishes to participate in the flower path creation, Mr. A, expressed anticipation, saying, "Just thinking about cultivating my living space, which I usually passed by indifferently, makes me excited."
