New Supreme Court Justice Notaek: "Doubts About Judiciary Must Be Cleared Through Trials"

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] Newly appointed Supreme Court Justice No Tae-ak (58, Judicial Research and Training Institute class 16) emphasized on the 4th during his inauguration, "Since the current situation faced by the judiciary began with doubts about the independence and fairness of trials, the way to overcome this crisis must also be found through judicial procedures." He made this statement to express that concerns and suspicions surrounding the judiciary, which have continued since the abuse of judicial administrative power incident, should be overcome through trials.
In his inaugural speech, Justice No stated, "I will deeply engrave the constitutional value of judicial independence in my heart, boldly reject internal and external attempts to infringe upon it, and strive for conclusions that are predictable and acceptable to all, based on fair and faithful deliberation."
He also emphasized the social significance of rulings. Justice No said, "Sometimes a ruling holds meaning beyond just resolving disputes between parties," and added, "Through rulings, we must confirm the fundamental values of our society, which is based on a free democratic order, while maintaining social continuity and presenting a predictable legal environment." He further stressed, "In that process, we must also be able to read the demands of the times according to social changes and development."
He stated, "I consider what I handle not just a single case but a person's life, and with the mindset that no case in this world is unimportant, I have listened carefully to the parties' claims and worked to derive reasonable conclusions for specific matters."
Justice No is regarded as a traditional judge with diverse trial experience and meticulous legal theory. Born in Changnyeong, Gyeongnam, he graduated from Kyeseong High School and Hanyang University School of Law. He is the second Supreme Court Justice from Hanyang University after Justice Park Bo-young (59, class 16). He has served in various positions such as Chief Judge of the Patent Court, Senior Criminal Division Chief Judge of the Seoul Central District Court, and Chief Judge of the Seoul Northern District Court, earning a reputation for proficiency in trials across various fields.
