[Asia Economy Reporter Jo Gang-wook] KB Kookmin Bank announced on the 4th that it will donate an additional 500 million KRW to support underprivileged groups such as children and adolescents in the Daegu and Gyeongbuk regions who are struggling due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), and has decided to participate in the 'Good Landlord Movement.'
This support decision is a follow-up measure based on the company-wide support decision of the newly established 'Group Emergency Management Committee,' chaired by Chairman Yoon Jong-kyu. Chairman Yoon urged the group’s affiliates to actively participate and accelerate efforts to overcome COVID-19 as soon as possible.
KB Kookmin Bank will donate an additional 500 million KRW to Korea Food for the Hungry International to provide hygiene products and daily necessities. The primary support targets are vulnerable groups such as children and adolescents in the Daegu and Gyeongbuk regions who are in blind spots of care. Additionally, the purchase of support items will be made directly through traditional markets and small business owners in the Daegu and Gyeongbuk regions to promote domestic demand activation and coexistence with local small business owners.
The bank will also participate in the 'Good Landlord Movement.' It will reduce rent by 30% within a monthly limit of 1 million KRW for small business owners and SMEs occupying nationwide real estate owned by the bank for three months. In particular, for the Daegu and Gyeongbuk regions, the rent will be fully waived for three months.
Along with this, the KB Financial Group Emergency Management Committee plans to prioritize the expansion and establishment of elementary after-school care classrooms and attached kindergartens in elementary schools in the Daegu and Gyeongbuk regions to support children and parents affected by COVID-19 in these areas. In addition, the remodeling of local children's centers, which KB Kookmin Bank supports annually at a scale of 125 centers, and study rooms for low-income families will also focus on underprivileged children in the Daegu and Gyeongbuk regions.
