Jongno-gu Provides Masks to Residents of Ssokbangchon and Homeless People
Provided portable hand sanitizers, masks, and COVID-19 prevention guidelines to about 500 residents living in Donui-dong and Changsin-dong gosiwon and street homeless people
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Jongno-gu (Mayor Kim Young-jong), which is working to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the local community, is providing portable hand sanitizers and masks to vulnerable groups such as residents living in jjokbang (small rooms) and homeless people on the streets.
The support targets about 500 people, including residents living in jjokbang in Donui-dong and Changsin-dong and homeless people on the streets. The district provides portable hand sanitizers and masks along with COVID-19 prevention guideline leaflets.
For homeless people on the streets, who are relatively vulnerable to information, the district not only delivers masks and hand sanitizers but also actively carries out infection prevention measures such as guiding COVID-19 prevention rules and checking for fever symptoms.
In addition, the district strengthens quarantine measures in the jjokbang areas of Donui-dong and Changsin-dong, where housing conditions and hygiene are poor. The jjokbang villages are disinfected at least once a week, and the Donui-dong jjokbang counseling center and Changsin-dong jjokbang counseling center disinfect the interiors of their buildings daily, providing infection prevention guidelines to residents visiting the centers.
To prevent the spread of COVID-19, all resident group programs within the jjokbang counseling centers are currently suspended; however, facilities closely related to the health and hygiene of jjokbang residents, such as laundries, shower rooms, and restrooms, are operating normally to minimize residents' inconvenience.
The district also actively conducts quarantine activities at the ‘Jongno Regional Self-Support Center,’ which helps low-income residents achieve self-sufficiency and independence.
The self-support center and each self-support work site are disinfected daily, and frequently touched items such as door handles are regularly sanitized. In addition, self-support participants strictly comply with mask-wearing and use of hand sanitizers when entering the center.
