[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] The fundraising amount for Guro-gu (Mayor Lee Seong) ’s ‘2020 Warm Winter Campaign’ increased by 33% compared to last year.
Guro-gu announced on the 4th that through this year’s ‘Warm Winter Campaign,’ it raised a total of 2,082.2 million KRW, including 528.04 million KRW in cash donations and 1,554.16 million KRW in donated goods, greatly exceeding the initial target of 900 million KRW and achieving the highest amount in the district’s history.
The ‘Warm Winter Campaign’ is an annual fundraising movement jointly promoted by Guro-gu, the Seoul Community Chest of Korea, and the Guro Hope Welfare Foundation to help neighbors in need. The donated cash and goods are used for basic livelihood security recipients, low-income single-parent families, elderly living alone, and child heads of households within the district.
Guro-gu made efforts to encourage residents’ interest and participation in this campaign, which was conducted over three months starting from the end of November last year.
A ‘Love Thermometer’ showing real-time fundraising status was installed at the entrance of the district office plaza, and a special live fundraising broadcast featuring invited singer performances, on-site interviews with donors, and bazaars was held in collaboration with the local cable broadcasting station.
Various promotional activities encouraging fundraising participation were also carried out targeting local businesses, organizations, and residents.
Mayor Lee Seong plans to send letters of appreciation to about 600 donors early this month. Commendations will be awarded to 25 outstanding donors.
